Plants for the Future ETP Welcomes the Commission’s New Strategic Approach for AgRI 2040 and Food 2040

Following the publication of the European Commission’s New Strategic Approach to Research
and Innovation for Competitive, Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture, Forestry, Rural Areas and
Food Systems , Plants for the Future ETP (Plant ETP) welcomes the AgRI 2040 and Food 2040
frameworks as an important step towards a more competitive, resilient and sustainable European
agri -food sector.

Plant ETP particularly welcomes the recognition of plant breeding, seeds, plant varieties, genetic
resources and biotechnology as key tools for addressing current and future agricultural
challenges, as well as the acknowledgement of European Technology Pla tforms as important
partners in accelerating innovation.

Plant ETP also stresses that achieving the ambitions of AgRI 2040 and Food 2040 will require
sustained investment in plant research, breeding innovation and technology deployment. The
Platform looks forward to supporting the implementation of these priorities.
