Press release – European Organisations led by the EU Bioeconomy Alliance and Plant ETP call for Agriculture and Bioeconomy to Remain Core Priorities in Horizon Europe 2028–2034
Plants for the Future together with a broad coalition of European organisations has issued a joint statement urging EU policymakers to preserve the visibility of agriculture and bioeconomy in the next EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, Horizon Europe 2028–2034.
The organisations welcome the ITRE draft Report as a basis for negotiations but warn that proposed changes to the policy window title, removing explicit references to agriculture and bioeconomy, carry significant strategic and political consequences. Clear terminology in the Framework Programme is essential to signal Europe’s commitment to sectors that are fundamental to food security, sustainability, rural development, and long‑term economic resilience.
The coalition stresses that altering these references could weaken the sectors’ policy standing and risk delaying the adoption of Horizon Europe 2028–2034 at a time when stability and clarity for European researchers and innovators are crucial.
