Press release – European Industries Call for an EU Biotech Act II to Strengthen Biomanufacturing in Europe

European industry organisations have released a joint statement urging the EU to adopt an ambitious EU Biotech Act II, highlighting that despite Europe’s strong global position and the significant contribution of its bioeconomy and biopharma sectors, the EU remains the only major region without a coordinated biomanufacturing initiative.

The statement emphasises that advanced biomanufacturing is vital for a knowledge‑driven economy, resilient supply chains and high‑quality employment across Europe. It warns that regulatory fragmentation continues to slow the shift from innovation to industrial scale‑up, while global competitors such as the US, India and China are rapidly advancing their own biomanufacturing strategies.
