Plant ETP’s Contribution to the NGT Regulation Consultation

Plant ETP is pleased to contribute to the European Commission’s Call for Evidence on the delegated act supporting the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2026/1388 on plants produced by certain new genomic techniques (NGTs). The consultation gathered stakeholder input on the practical implementation of the new Regulation, particularly the verification process for Category 1 NGT plants.

Plant ETP highlighted the need for a harmonised, technology-neutral and practical implementation framework that provides legal certainty, supports breeders of all sizes and remains adaptable to scientific progress. A workable framework will be essential to ensure that innovation can contribute to European competitiveness, sustainability and agricultural resilience.

In addition, Plant ETP stressed that the future implementation framework for Category 2 NGTs should remain proportionate, science-based and supportive of innovation while maintaining high safety standards.
